I’m carrying out two surveys to better understand the experiences of people within the Black hair community — both customers who use hair services and the businesses that provide them.
Your views will help me understand the current landscape, the experiences and challenges faced by customers and businesses, and the opportunities for improving how they connect.

About the Surveys
The surveys are designed to gather honest and independent perspectives from both customers and hair businesses. The customer survey focuses on experiences of finding and using Black hair services, while the business survey explores how hairdressers and businesses currently reach and connect with customers.
Each survey takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete. You will also be asked to specify the region you are based in, which will help identify whether experiences differ across different areas.
The information collected will help me better understand the needs, experiences and challenges within the Black hair industry and will contribute to the development of a new product. Survey information may also be used in research, reports, articles or other public materials to share insights and findings.
Frequently asked questions
Who can complete the surveys?
There are two separate surveys. The customer survey is for people who have experience using Black hair services, while the business survey is for hairdressers and hair businesses providing these services.
How long will it take to complete the surveys?
I estimate the survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. However, the time taken may be longer or shorter as not all questions need to be anwsered and also based on the detail you provide.
Why are you asking the region I live?
You will be asked to specify the region you live so that I can understand experiences from different areas. You will not be asked to provide your exact address.
Will my answers identify me?
The survey does not ask for personal information or business names, and responses are intended to be anonymous. Please do not include information in your answers that could identify you, another person, or a specific business.
How will the survey information be used?
The information will help me understand the experiences of customers and businesses within the Black hair industry and inform the development of a new product. It may also be used to produce research, reports, articles and other materials that share broader insights from the survey findings.
Why are there two different surveys?
Customers and businesses experience the industry from different perspectives. Separate surveys allow me to understand both sides and gather insights that are relevant to each group.
